![]() The silver dapple dilution gene affects only black hair, so it does not "show" on a chestnut, but is carried by chestnuts who have the gene. Silver dilutes any black hair on the horses's body to chocolate to slate gray, sometimes with dapples, and lightening the made and tail to silvery gray through platinum shades.
