The gray modifier adds gray hairs to the horse. Grays are born any other color, then "go gray" over time, often going through a "dappled gray" stage or a roany-looking stage along the way (and they can be mistaken for roans during that time). Because gray is dominant, all gray horses will have a gray parent.
