M & M K'ehleyr Surprise 'Kate'
(Shatona Karzan [xTio Lalo] X Contessa)
AMHA #0170396 CMHA #9428
Gord and Mary Freeman's palomino mare M & M K'ehleyr Surprise (Shatona Karzan x Contessa) has been making a splash this summer in open hunter competition with youth rider Hillary Kirkvliet. At the London Horsemanship Open Hunt Show in Ilderton, Ontario on August 4, in large classes of 20+ riders, 'Kate' and Hillary were in the ribbons over fences (2'3") and in equitation on the flat. In the final show of the season this pair were named Champion Large Hunter Pony. Way to go, Kate and Hillary!

Winter Moon Enlightenment, 1995 grey stallion (CW's Sterling Silver x Season's Ebony Lark)
Winter Moon Enlightenment is a 12-year-old grey stallion, whom I have raised from birth. He is my fantasy horse and I love to show him whenever I can. This year was most special for me showing "Smoke" because I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and underwent chemotherapy over the summer and radiation treatments in the fall. Smoke didn't get ridden and trained on very much at home because I didn't have the strength or energy to do it. However, when I took him to shows he gave me his all. He gave me one of the best rides I've every had on him at the Wheat State regional show in June on one of the worst, most painful, days I experienced because of my treatments. He seemed to sense my weakness and responded with his strength. We won the Non-pro reining class that day.
I also showed Smoke in 3 NRHA competitions in the Rookie division and he performed well against all breeds. We earned enough points to win the High Point Rookie NRHA Morgan year-end award, sponsored by the National Morgan Reining Horse Association. Smoke was solid on his patterns, thank heavens, since I was full of drugs and worrying about my hat falling off and exposing my little bald head, so not concentrating all that well.
Our last competition of the year was at the Grand National show and, again, Smoke did his best with little at home preparation. I was in the middle of radiation treatments and my energy level was at its lowest ever. We didn't win any titles in OKC, but we came close with a 3rd in the Non-pro adult qualifier, 4th in the Non-pro World Championship, 3rd in the Non-pro Freestyle, and 6th in the Open World Championship. He was good natured enough to let me paint him to look like a zebra for the freestyle. What a good boy! It was a tough year for me, but Smoke made it bearable and gave me something to focus on besides my health. Next year looks bright and we will be hitting the trail again.

BTTR Aced It” our 2007 colt by “Chili Colorado” and out of “MEMC Sahara Gold”. He was entered and won Reserve Champion Stallion, Reserve Junior Champion and second 2007 Morgan colts; At the following “A” Show:
“It is hard for me to say why only one nominee would win over all the others. I expect that each and everyone deserves in their own way. I think that first and foremost, the winning candidate should express the superior Morgan Horse temperament and traceability with a willing and winning way of going. That is how “Ace” presents himself. He wants to please and seems to understand what we ask of him. Whether it requires him to be quick – flashy – quiet – or animated – he just knows what we want and does it!
He won the In-Hand- Junior Reserve Champion Colt & In-Hand Reserve Show Champion Stallion after taking second in the 2007 In-Hand Weanling Colts; at the 23rd Annual C-Fair Charity Horse Show in Monroe, WA on August 3, 2007 shown by junior handler, Christina Martinez. Christina had only shown in AQHA classes until this show. This win and Aces exemplary behavior, while other horses around him were rearing and acting out of control, helped this young lady build her confidence and her beginning with Morgan Horse exhibiting.
Ace was a testament to his breeding and was a “Morgan Ambassador” to other exhibitors and spectators alike. He is a joy to own and train! Respectfully, he is our candidate.

TFM Skywalker is expanding his show career. He was Hunt Champion last year
at our Ontario Morgan Classic Show and went Reserve Carriage Champion this
year. He also won the Training Division of the Checkmate Combined Driving
Event as well as placing first at the Spring indoor CDE show. He placed
well in large classes at East Aurora Carriage Show in NY but the hilight was
showing him at Oklahoma in Carriage & Hunt divisions where he usually placed
from 3rd to 6th in classes that had up to 16 entries. We were very pleased
as he is just seven years old so has lots of time to improve. In 2008, we
are hoping to do some Dressage showing with him as well as CDE and Carriage.
Thanks

This is FFCF Alabaster Shores ( CW'S Totally Silver x Atta Lane Attie )
Ally and her half sibling are the first horses that I have ever shown in a Morgan show ring. They are also the first gray Morgans to have been shown at the Michigan Morgan Breeders Horse Futurity. As colorful Morgan owners, we all know how difficult the task of showing a colorful in the show ring can be.
Ally's first year showing, she received a third in an open show; Two and Under Halter Class which pleased me very much considering she was up against a few older horses. At MMHB Futurity, she received a third in Amateur Weanling Fillies class. Her second year showing, she received a third an open show which was also Two and Under class. We arrived late at MMHB Futurity this year and she received a seventh place in Yearling Fillies class. As I learn a bit more about Morgan showing, I expect that she will do better in representing the gray Morgan. Her wonderful temperament should make it easier for us as we venture thru our new experiences together in the open and Morgan show rings.

We did several different expos/clinics with several different colorfuls, but the one that was the biggest and most exciting for us was the MA Equine Affaire. This was our first year participating and the first time both horses had been to such a big event. We chose palomino mare Coachman's Wintr Maize (Kickapoo HDC Chief x Moorewoods Tenerezza) for a couple different reasons. First, is her sweet nature and uncanny way of just drawing people to her. She is gentle and quiet. Second is her perfect gold color as a great representation of the neat colors our Morgans come in!
Mazie was photographed dozens of times during the four day event by kids and adults as well. We were asked so many times what kind of horse she was and people could not believe she was a Morgan! They had no clue Morgans come in colors! It was very cool for me to see my 17 and 13 year old daughters talking to people about how different genes affect coat color and simply talking about their Morgans! We look forward to going again in 2008!

Moen's Diamond Bella
AMHA #0162912
(Robbie Sue's Ragtime X Springtime Laurel)
DOB March 2002 palomino
Bella has been in training for barrel racing only five weeks. She is already excelling at barrels, and is garnering attention in a sport dominated by quarter horses. On her third time in competition, after five weeks of training, she and her rider/trainer, Ashley Hamilton, placed in the money, winning second place in 3D. Her fastest time so far has been 17.03 seconds, in the 2D level. She improves every time she goes out, so we have very high hopes that she will rise steadily in the competition. Every time she competes, a number of people comment and are surprised that Morgans can be palomino and can successfully compete against quarter horses in a rodeo sport. Jackie Nelson, champion barrel racer and trainer of quarter horses quotes "Generally it takes a long time to train a barrel horse. Bella took to it very quickly; people are very impressed with her. Because you see only quarter horses running barrels, everyone is amazed that she is Morgan."
Bella should win the award for Promotional Colorful Morgan for 2007 for the following reasons:
1. she is excelling in a rodeo sport dominated by another breed of horse
2. she is getting a great deal of attention for her color and her abilities.
3. she is acting as an ambassador for the Morgan breed
4. and finally, she is a proven broodmare of colorful foals

Amberfield's Lonesome Dove, want to
nominate her
for the Morgan promotion award...
Dove hardly needs an introduction, this beautfully
marked grulla has been on display and out and about
since she was a weanling. Last fall she was ridden by
my husband across the state of Michigan prompting a
lot of inquiries, 'what breed of horse is she?'. they
were surprised to know a Morgan could come in grulla.
Early this spring, in March she had a very nice colt
by SWMR Smokin Man, not the grulla I had hoped for,
like last year, but a phenomonally built black, that
we retained. Memorial day weekend found her on display
at the Equine Expo up at Saratoga race track, with her
colt by her side. She had a short break until weaning
time, then hit the trails again , as a mount for my
friends and family. She is well known in this area as
the 'funny colored' Morgan , that we trail ride.
People are also happy to know that Old type Morgans
built like her can still be found. November was Dove's
last venture of the year, she was on display at the
Equine Affaire in MA along with her son. When a few of
the speakers needed a horse for their demos, she
filled in, and had her body condition evaluated by
one, and was 'adjusted' by a chiropractor as well.
Dove is my 'eveready' horse, when needed she is up to
the job, serene and beautiful, with enough stripes to
stand out in every situation! She is due again in
March of 08, come on Dove... I want stripes!

I would like to nominate this photo of Ancan True Colors, for the Promotional Colorful Morgan of 2007 award. I feel this photograph is a top contender for several reasons. First of all, this is a fancy "show horse" who has won numerous championships and awards not only in halter classes, but in pleasure driving classes where the hot, snorty, high stepping horses (that often make the spectator wonder if the horse is even safe or sane) are pinned winners. Many owners of top English show horses wouldn't ever dream of taking their champion horses on a trail or into a deep lake. They would not only fear possible injury, but most don't even keep their champions at home.
Secondly, what can't be seen in this one photograph are the other horses; all mares (some bred, some open) that this breeding stallion is trail riding alongside with nary a glance in their direction. You can't see the other horse-breed-owners on the shore who are staring in adorning amazement at the "light colored horse" and calling out to us asking what breed of horse he is - and how beautiful they think he is.
Finally, the color, clarity, and subject matter of this photograph as a whole are just incredible. This is a photograph that would appeal to any equine lover of any breed. It is a photo that the viewer can relate to. They can see themselves in this picture on their own horse, if they have one. If they don't, a photograph like this definitely inspires the longing desire to own a horse and to trail ride this way on their own. When they find out it is a Morgan horse - it confirms that this is indeed THE breed of horse for them.

I would like to submit this picture for the Theraputic Colorful Morgan Of 2007 award. I chose this shot because it captures the bond and love between a horse and his owner. It is a perfect example of how the outside of the horse is good for the inside of a human.

Christie wrote the below piece in as part of the application process to De Paul University and Augustana College.
They both accepted her and granted her the full amount of scholarship money that they could. Both Lita and Star before her have been a huge part of this young lady growing up, and dealing with divorce and life changes. I really do think Lita was her "therapy horse" for 2007.
Kris
Through the hardships and carefree times of adolescence, an individual is faced with obstacles and decisions that will change his or her life forever. The decisions can be right or wrong and the obstacles can be overcome or given way to. No matter what the outcome, they all share a commonality in the developing of the adults of tomorrow. My life experiences have had a fair share of failure and success, and those moments will stay with me forever........
Success sometimes deals with pain, as well. As an equine exhibitor for the past seven years, the worst pain imaginable is the sudden loss of a horse. I spent over a year showing a magnificent mare named Star, whom I absolutely adored. A few weeks after an October horse show in 2006 she suddenly past away due to an intestinal tumor. The pain I felt was unimaginable. I felt like I had lost a best friend, like I had been ripped in half. My future show plans suddenly were shattered and I had no desire to show again. After a long winter of slowly making my way back into the horse world, another opportunity arose. Another horse at my barn, titled the 2004 Reserve World Champion Western Mare, needed a rider. I hesitantly stepped into the saddle and began building a relationship. Throughout the year, we won a total of nine first place ribbons, two second places, one third, one fourth, one sixth, Reserve Champion in Hand, and were titled Event Champions. Even more rewarding was the fact that I came back from a tremendous loss to do better than ever. I learned what I am capable of achieving, and that I can overcome the most difficult obstacles. In the future, I will have the confidence and strength to work towards any goal, no matter how arduous.
