All horses are either red (center) or black (right). Red (commonly called chestnut) and black are the base colors for every other horse color. Bay (left) and brown are created when a black horse inherits a modifier called agouti. Agouti restricts the black hair to the points of the horse. chestnuts can have agouti, but it will not show on them because they have no black hair to restrict.
